A new driver doesn’t have a driving record, as a result insurance is extremely expensive. Insurance companies never like to pay out and statistically new drivers are involved in far more traffic violations and accidents. Due to this, adding a young driver to your current insurance policy would normally double your premiums. In order to acquire decrease insurance prices, you need to understand a couple of items ahead of shopping for auto insurance for a young driver and this contains the following.

1. Girl vs. Boy

Adding a girl to your insurance policy will be cheaper, not by a lot, but less expensive none the significantly less. Statistically, boys drive more rapidly, take more dangers, and are far more likely to be involved in an accident or get ticketed for speeding. As a result, insurance firms take into account young male drivers a greater risk than females the very same age.

2. Defensive Driving Course

A defensive driving course is one of the very best approaches to decrease premiums for new drivers. If you plan on adding a young male to your policy, a defensive driving course is strongly recommended. These courses are reasonably economical and only take about one particular day. In some states you can really take a defensive driving course on the World wide web! That is the easiest and most practical way to get reduce insurance premiums. A passing score can minimize your policy premiums by about 10-15%.

3. Good Grades

You are always after your teen to get greater grades. Adding the incentive of decrease premiums may well give them the added drive to study harder. Most insurance businesses provide a great student discount to young drivers. To qualify, the plan normally requires a B average or greater. You will have to give proof of grades, such as copies of report cards, or a note from your principal. Good grades demonstrate maturity and a accountable attitude. A very good student discount generally ranges in between 10-20%.

4. Old Automobile

Your teen may well winch and whine about the old clunker you just purchased for them, but there is logic behind your selection. Old autos generally incur cheaper repairs and the insurance premiums are less costly as effectively. Higher end, luxury autos are more pricey to insure no matter who is driving these.

5. Hold a Clean Record

New drivers don’t have a driving record. It is incredibly critical for your young driver to create and sustain very good driving habits. More than time, this will outcome in a very good, clean driving record and your rates will go down. Age is also a element. Usually, insurance organizations have ‘thresholds’ or ‘milestones’. Turning 21 will normally minimize rates and you can count on one more reduction at age 25. Acquiring married might also decrease premiums, as this shows responsibility and maturity. On the other hand, repeated offenses such as speeding or accidents will make your rates skyrocket.

I was told, that if I have a commercial drivers license, that I can not take a defensive driving course to remove a traffic ticket. Is this true?

  6. Lewis February 19, 2013 at 4:27 am #

Ok this is the 3rd time asking this and ppl still seem to not understand. I am not asking about getting it dismissed. I paid the fine and that’s it, nothing I can do about the ticket, I know. I’m asking if I can get points off my license by taking a defensive driving course so my insurance company won’t see it and insurance won’t go up.

I’m quite a meek driver and thus have avoided driving for about a year, but have come to see not driving as a stigma I’ve had to bear. I’m looking for a defensive driving course in my area to increase my confidence when driving.

If I get a ticket , how much time do I have before taking a defensive driving course and getting it off the record.
In my case, I got the ticket few months ago and already paid the court.

Does this mean I have no chance in hell to get the ticket off the record?

I got in a fender bender (with a fairly expensive car) earlier today. I know taking a defensive driving course will keep the points off of my license, but will it also keep my premiums from going up?

I’m not sure if insurance rates are based on your driving history, or what the company has to pay out for you. But if anyone is familiar with this process, your knowledge would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I just received my driver’s license earlier today. I heard that a defensive driving course reduces your insurance costs by ten percent for three years. I also heard that it is a six hour class where you just keep watching videos or something similar.

  31. Gene March 24, 2013 at 11:02 am #

I recently got a speeding ticket and opted to take defensive driving course to remove it from my record. But I really don’t know which one to take. I’d much prefer an online course and one that isn’t too incredibly boring, but mostly I need it to be effective.

Any recommendations? Please explain why or why not I should use the program you suggest. Thanks!
I live in Texas. Also, I know what’s available, but I was hoping someone could recommend a good course so that the one I pick isn’t completely lame.

  32. Teena March 24, 2013 at 11:02 am #

I passed this course in the middle of 2007 and got this certificate, but i can’t use it as one of discount factors when i am gonna to buy an auto insurance. The licensed auto insurance agents told me that Defensive Driving Course Certificate can’t be used to get more auto insurance discounts for Texas? Why? It’s so weird. So, why Texans need to take that course besides for a court when i got a speeding ticket?

    HI,
I just got 2 points from careless driving ticket and I am having a provisional license. Do you think I can take a defensive driving course to reduce my points on my provisional license? I know the surcharge does not apply for provisional license. So I am wondering whether or not taking defensive driving course will help reduce points and decrease the insurance rate?
    Thank you so much.

  40. Cruz March 27, 2013 at 12:42 am #

I received a ticket a month ago for speeding. I opted to do defensive driving. I have not yet taken the defensive driving course. On the informational brochure it specifically states that I may not use defensive driving again if I have “taken” a defensive driving course to defer a ticket in the past 12 months. Since I technically have not “taken” the course would it be possible to use that single course to defer both tickets? What would happen if I attempted to do so?

  41. Darrell March 27, 2013 at 5:22 am #

Ok, so i got a speeding ticket in NY. It was 6 points but judge reduced it to 4 points. If i were to go to a defensive driving school would the four points be removed? My defensive driving course expired well over a year ago.

Will my license be clean if i go to traffic school and remove the points?

  42. Norbert March 27, 2013 at 6:45 pm #

So I got a speeding ticket the other day for going at 74 miles per hour on a 55 zone in VA. When I get to court, I’m planning on pleading “no contest” and try get this off my record by taking a defensive driving course. So, can I take the course before my court date so that I don’t have to go twice? Or do I have to explicitly wait for the judge to allow me and then take it? Thanks for any answers in advance 🙂
