Vehicle insurance is necessary for each driver, no matter their age. Certain groups of folks are regarded safer drivers and consequently are charged much less for insurance. Regrettably, students do not fall into this group. College students and folks under the age of 25 usually are charged really a bit for insurance. This is because the insurance businesses perceive see younger drivers as more high-danger. They get in more accidents, lead to much more monetary, physical and bodily damage and deaths. For that reason, they are charged larger premiums.

The typical college student will have to pay somewhere in the neighborhood of $1500 to $4500 a year just for auto insurance. Male college students will be forced to spend on the high finish of this range. Numerous college students who are struggling just make their month-to-month car payments could be tempted to either skimp on insurance or not purchase it at all. This is illegal and is a crapshoot. If that student had been to get into any kind of wreck (no matter how minor), or if any individual gets hurt whilst they are driving, they could be in a world of trouble, rapidly. They could have their license taken away and suspended. They could also finish up in jail or sued for the expenses of healthcare treatment options. Consequently, it is extremely crucial for students to get automobile insurance even if they are short on money.

Whilst college students have been found to be the group of drivers that pose the highest danger, there are issues that students can do to get their insurance rates reduced. These contain creating certain that they have very good grades. Greater insurance companies will offer some sort of discount for students that have a grade-point average of 3. or larger. If they make the Dean’s list or honor roll, then they can also qualify for lower interest prices. Girls are charged much less then boys because males are noticed as riskier drivers.

Students going to school in a rural area are charged less then students whose schools are in bigger cities. Living close to one’s job or school can also be a benefit. Students should meticulously re-take into account buying a sports auto. Sports automobiles are much more pricey to insure as are convertibles. Larger and newer cars are less costly. Good credit can also reduce insurance charges.

Students should appear for autos that have safety attributes such as airbags, an alarm and a stability technique due to the fact this will conserve them income on insurance as nicely. Driving cautiously is also essential. Getting targeted traffic citations or tickets can skyrocket one’s insurance prices extremely rapidly and substantially.
To safe the very best insurance rates, college students should do some comparison shopping. The Internet is a great location to a examine out and compare car insurance prices. Students may also want to discover an agent simply because they will most likely be able to safe the finest bargains. Taking a driving or safety course may possibly also might reduce insurance premiums.

The cash could be channeled through university students to assist children from low earnings school. How willing would students from schools nationwide be, if is just annually?

Yesterday I had been driving lower the freeway around the carpool lane, there is any sort of accident about 200 yd. in from t me and so i progressively stopped. When I was preventing I saw the vehicle behind me coming fast! And So I understood I had been gonna get hit, he condemned his breaks in the last second and merely totaled my moms completely new vehicle.

We designed a report using the CHP, both of us ‘ valid DL and insurance.

So my mother calls her insurance and they’re not since the damages because she was performing the car. Is that this true in almost any accident? What insurance will need to pay? The vehicle is completely new can they get her a replacement? And I am feeling just a little discomfort today shod I recieve it checked? (I haven’t got medical health insurance, I am a university student). The car is totaled should she obtain a rental?

And what is GAP insurance she states she’s that a lot.

Sorry for the questions this really is clearly my first accident anything is needed and it is deeply appreciated.

Ok, my spouse and i have been in about $25,000 indebted, He lost his job so he will get unemployment that the amount does not even cover all of the bills, I haven’t got instruction (I actually do take classes to obtain my G.E.D.,they occupy my day literally. I’ll be carried out with it on May. 31,2012),and so i am presently not able to operate. We do not go to eat whatsoever(strict diets and that we hate individuals to serve us).We haven’t any extra expenses because our families purchase mine and my husbands mobile phone, house phone, cable, and my husbands vehicle insurance bills. His check is finished the moment we obtain it therefore we needed to get food stamps and state medicaid programs just to keep food in the home for the boy and ourselves. I can not obtain a loan for varsity to visit college after i finish, I’ve been told when I apply for personal bankruptcy i quickly will not have the ability to obtain a grant, with a friend. I personally don’t like finding yourself in debt, needing to depend on family to pay for our bills , and never ever getting anything, despite the fact that Thx to possess a family who’s prepared to allow us to out whenever we require it. I

did lots of research about this matter as well as visited 2 different financial organizers who’ve both stated to launch personal bankruptcy is good option. We own an unsightly old trailer(only worth $2500 and 1 automobile worth $3500, having a initial property worth of $3100 so every factor we’ve is protected in the property liquidation process). Ok last one i adore we’re expecting another child? And So I have advised an agenda:

Plan:( we usually receive $5000-$6000 in taxes Given and $687 Condition, Husbands salary $1000 monthly even)

    1) Apply for personal bankruptcy once i get my taxes.(Declaring personal bankruptcy may cost among $500-$2000per person if filing separate or $700-$2500 if filed together and that we have somebody who owes us money who will pay for out consumer credit counseling courses and test, still no where near to what he owe us). We’re filing it together. We’d be declaring Chapter Seven Personal bankruptcy.

2)My spouse and i would then open a safe and secure loan at the quantity of $1200 each which has a 6.9% rate of interest and costs.

3)Since all the amounts happen to be went, it will cost $1304.11 per person to repay the guaranteed loan ( I figure we simply open a checking account, each, using the loan and set in $104.11 per person to pay for the price) making automatic obligations from stated checking account for 1 twelve month. Like me sure everybody knows the more the promptly payment history is the foremost credit score you’ll receive. ( I figure we will have to do that for five years)

4)Take my husbands salary and open 2 guaranteed charge cards per person for $250 each by having an rate of interest at 1.5% .(only so low since it is guaranteed, Both of us have terrible credit)

5)Change and pay our regular bills using the card( bills and monthly hygiene items equal as much as $902 monthly without having to pay off debt,we will not have more.)

6)Change again and remove the cards together with his salary (our parents each stated that they’ll provide us with $500 to cover our first several weeks bills free and obvious as lengthy when i finish school , so $1000 cash total.)

7)Do that for five years while putting the launched funds in the guaranteed loan inside a separate saving account in the finish of every year for any house lower payment($6,000 plus interest)

8)Now 12 months as we set this up we’ll have 2 children, 1 is going to be 6 another is going to be almost single.I’ll be carried out with my G.E.D. education, Already began college( I discovered the you may still get grants or loans should you apply for personal bankruptcy, they can have grants or loans for individuals and student who’ve declared personal bankruptcy,so my pal was wrong.)Now I’m able to begin saving in my children college,I selected the Gerber Existence College Plan, I’m able to pay $1206.12 yearly from my taxes to ensure that they’re going to have a reasonable add up to have them began(I’m only getting $10,000 per child).

9)Still 12 months after plan began, make use of the a few of the money form my taxes to spread out up a life insurance coverage policy for your loved ones, I selected 1 for $100,000 and it is $132.09 annually($25,000 per person).

10)Still 12 months after plan began, place the relaxation in our taxes (about $3007.68) each year for college within our saving take into account the home lower payment(you use $12030.72 plus interest)

So about 6 years in to the plan we’ll have about $20,000 in savings for any home, a credit rating with a minimum of 700 FISO (each), a great size life insurance coverage policy for your loved ones, a university graduate, A functional college fund for the children, and watch for any modest home.

So my real question is, Will my plan work when we stay with it? Ok last one consume affect my husband is not likely to be unemployed forever nor am i going to.

growing up is hard work but being a teenager is the most fun time of your life, sure you have problems with rules and boyfriends and girlfriends and cleaning your room and curfew, but look at the bigger picture, like when you lose your job are 2 months behind on your mortgage your car is being repossed and your kids need new shoes and are complaing because you asked them to clean their room and you can only afford 20 dollar shoes and not those 150 dollar ones that they really want, the real world of most parents, oh and food cost about 1000 dollars a month

I’m a high school student with a decent-paying part time job. After gas and insurance payments, I usually still end up with several hundred dollars of “extra” cash. Other than the conservative allowance I give myself each month, it goes into savings. What would be the smart thing to be doing with this money?

I know the obvious answer is saving for college, but I have a pretty much guaranteed full-ride scholarship for my undergraduate on the state’s dime. It also looks like I can get a stipend from the university I’m thinking of attending.

Would you suggest starting to build my credit, investing, or something else?

Thanks for the advice! Never too soon to start planning for “real” financial life!

I’m a college student and I work part time I make $500.00 a month. My rent is $654.00 on campus everything included my health insurance is $95.00 a month and I spend about $100.00 a month on food. My car is down now and it will cost a few hundred dollars to get fixed. I have $15K in student loan debt so far less than $300.00 credit card debt. Should I try to get a new car with more loans or just get my ’91 cutlass cierra fixed. I graduate in 2 years and I’m 24.

Ok, I turn 18 on Oct.13. The job I am hired at (haven’t started working yet) is walking distance from my house, and my school is about a 10 minute drive from my house (normal traffic). I am fully capable of purchasing a vehicle under $7,500, my sights have been set on either a 92′ LS400 $6988 (86k miles) or a 96′ LS400 $2999. Though I want a lexus I prefer a car that will last at least 5yrs. without major problems, can drive at least 15 miles a day on $20 dollars worth of gas, and affordable on insurance (I should be paying half of the insurance cost with my parents and I hear taking drivers ed means less on insurance which i’ve done). Anyone with car/lexus experience please enlighten me on the best decision to make and/or what you would expect to happen if I purchase either ls400s. Brutally honest answers won’t bother me if respect full.

p.s. you can see what I’ve seen about these cars at…

This is rather lengthy, and I certainly understand if you don’t want to read so much.

I’m 35, white male, never been married, no girlfriend, no kids. I have no debt, and graduated in college with a B.A. and gained a license to teach Spanish 7-12. I graduated at the very top of my college class, although going to college in my 30s was extremely psychologically stressful for me.

When I was a young person, I had a phobia about talking with girls my own age (and still do most of the time), due to something that happened to me when I was nine years old. So, basically, I could not have any relationships with girls, and had few friends, if any, in school. As a high school and junior high school student, I was lonely and severely depressed much of the time, and I remember feeling empty most of the time throughout my high school years.

I went to work for my father’s small business, and at 18 years old, I was accused of causing an automobile accident while on the job. I was sued for half a million dollars, and the lawsuit lasted seven years. During that time, I became severely depressed, fearing the worst – that I’d lose everything that I owned (even though we had insurance), and that my father would lose his business because of me being sued (we were both named as defendants). I continued working for my dad in his business, even though I hated it more than anything, because I felt obligated to stick with him and not to leave him while this damn lawsuit was ongoing. Seven years of hell went by in my life, and there were days and weeks in which I simply did not want to live anymore. The lawsuit finally went to trial, and a jury determined that I was not at fault, and we didn’t have to pay anything because I honestly was not at fault; however, that did nothing to remedy the seven years of hell that I was put through. When the jury read the verdict, I sobbed uncontrollably, and felt like I was about to lose my mind, because such an incredible weight had been lifted from my mind. The jury looked at me as if I had lost my mind, and my lawyer did not understand why I was crying with incredible feelings depression when the foreman read the verdict in my favor. Only my mother understood how I felt, and she doesn’t like talking about it, because it reminds her of how extremely depressed I was during that period of my life.

Afterwards, I went onto college. I decided to become a teacher, because I wanted to do something rewarding and help young people. However, now that it has been a year and a half since I graduated from college, I still cannot buy a job. I fill out resumes, get to the interviews, and a different person is always chosen after the interview process every time. I don’t know what it is that people hate about me. Maybe I just don’t look like a typical teacher.

Nevertheless, I feel like I am at a point right now where I am almost unable to do anything, sinking in quicksand with the pressures of parents and family to get a job, and still living with my parents. I feel like I have failed in life in nearly every way, and wish I knew what is wrong with me. I feel stupid, disliked by most, and like I can’t do anything right, expect for getting excellent grades in college.

Yet, I feel like it is hard for me to form social relationships with people, and there are some days when it is very difficult, psychologically speaking, to do things that require social interaction. Some days, I am open to about anything, and then all of the sudden, the walls are erected, and I retreat to my psychological cave of isolation, to so speak. I am “frozen,” and cannot do much of anything of meaning until I come out of that state, which can be a few hours, or a few days, or sometimes on occasion longer.

If you are or have felt this way for a significant length of time, please share your story, and what steps you took to remedy it.

    Thanks.

I am a freshman in college working on my BFA in Theatre. I have heard that getting a degree in general is important to qualify for competitive spots in regional airlines (after all other training, flight time, etc.); but I wanted to know if having a BFA, in theatre of all things, would change that or if it is just important that I have a 4 year degree from a university. I also wanted to know what the best steps to take were towards becoming a commercial pilot and in what order would you recommend taking them.

Thank you for your help! I look forward to your responses!

I got in a automobile collision two days ago involving a guy in a truck. It was my fault because I was yeilding & i didn’t see him comming. Fortunatly the damage was very minimal. I had a dent on my hood and his truck barley had a scratch. We were both okay and not hurt. We exchanged information. Two days later he promtedly notifid my insurance company and they said that he reported property damage and he hired an attorny saying he was injured. He clearly wasn’t injured, infact he even told the cop that he wasn’t when asked. I feel like this guy might be taking advantage of me to pocket money. If so i’m worried that he will succeed and I’ll have to pay an outstanding fee which I can’t affort. I’m a college student & don’t have a job. How much money will I possibly have to pay if he successfully accuses me of an injury? What’s the best thing I can do about this? I don’t really know much about this kind of stuff and I want to do what ever I can do in preventing myself from being taken advantage of and having to pay an outstanding unlegit fee. Thanks!

As a citizen of the United States of America, do you believe having healthcare should be a right or a privilege?

When I say a right, I mean you should have health care coverage no matter what your income status is.

When I say a privilege, I mean having health care is something you choose to have if you want it.

    ===============================================

I believe that health care is a right and that all Americans should be insured no matter what their income status is. I do however believe it should not be socialized where you are told which doctors you are required to visit.

I also believe that the US Government should have a health insurance program for Americans who cannot otherwise afford health care. This includes the poor, senior citizens, college students, and business owners who own their own independent business.
Before I chose a Best Answer, I would like to say that I enjoyed reading all the answers given by all those who partipated on if you beleive health care is a right or a privilege in the United States.

I am from Nebraska and went to college there for a year and a half. Last semester I went to Bogota, Colombia for a break and came back about a month ago.
I decided a while ago that I wanted to finish college in Colorado, but made no steps to toward that until recenty. Yesterday, I went to Fort Collins to figure things out.
To gain residency in most states you need to be there for a year and prove to be self sufficient so I thought that I would move there this summer and start the year process and have to deal with the out-of-state tuition for that year.. Well I came to find out that I either have to at least be 22 and live there for a year to be a resident. I am 20. So i’m still considered a minor..
Is there anyone out there that has a similar sitution with Colorado?? This is crazy! What did you do? Did you get emancipated? That seems to be the best option.

This is going to be long, but it’s a somewhat desperate cry for help, and I really have no idea where else to go with it.

I am a 24-year-old college student on my third major; I decided to switch from something I knew how to do, to pursue a lucrative job I’d probably hate (computers), to something I like and will continue to love to do, though it’s not as lucrative (teaching literature). Last year, I moved on from a community college to a University, and I’m now broke.

Last year, I moved back in with my mother; my parents have been divorced for 6 years. My father quit his medical practice in my hometown, moved across the country, quit his job there, and is now filing for bankruptcy and does not pay my mother alimony. My mother lost her job a couple of weeks ago working for a land company, and cannot file for unemployment. She has a master’s degree in business, but her degree is “old”, and at 52, she is having difficulty competing with younger people. She does not have a lot of money, since in the divorce, my father took most of our “stuff”, and she was left with our property – which isn’t selling.

Just after the divorce, I sold most of my stuff – movies, books, DVDs, video games, computer equipment, even furniture – to save money for college expenses. For a couple of years, it was just fine – I had just enough spending money and a steady enough job that paid enough and had enough hours that I could focus on my classes and not have much to worry about while I lived at home and helped pay for groceries and such.

Well, that all changed pretty quickly.

Last summer, my car broke down – the transmission blew while pulling out of a parking lot. I had to wind up buying a new car. There goes a lot of money, right there.

After that, a theater group I’m in went to Salem, Massachusetts to do some research on the Salem Witch Trials for the play, The Crucible. I wound up having to take my car, because I was the only other person with a reliable automobile for the long trip besides the one car we had already planned to be taking. Which meant that I needed to buy new tires. Some people pitched in for gas, and everyone paid for their hotel room, but as the trip went on, I wound up covering a lot of expenses. I spent $1800 in a single weekend buying tires, gas, food, drinks, tours, books, and props for the play. I was paid for about $70 worth of props and a fair amount of the gas from everyone. Not a single person paid me back for the food and drinks I wound up buying, or the tour tickets I bought them. Some people bought me dinner at later dates and such, but I didn’t get paid back. I’m a college student, I can’t afford to throw that kind of money down on a weekend excursion. But, I did. I have since not trusted anyone to borrow money from me.

Later that summer, I was in a car accident with my (now-ex) girlfriend. I spent a week in the hospital and suffered a closed head injury that has affected and continues to affect my memory and attention, to the point where I basically read at a snail’s pace. Doesn’t bode well for classes, especially for classes in my particular field of study (English/Education/Literature).
Worst part is, my insurance didn’t initially pay for anything at all. I was airlifted from the accident – cost $900. My anesthesia still hasn’t been paid for, don’t remember how much that was. One of my surgeries wasn’t even initially covered – I wound up ponying up for a lawyer, with my mother’s help, which helped us to get them to pay for most of it, finally – then we had to pay the lawyer, of course. It’s still ongoing. Anesthesia still isn’t paid for. We still can’t afford it ourselves, either.

After the accident, I had a hard time going back to real life. I couldn’t move to where I had planned because I couldn’t take a full load of classes that semester, move, and find a new job without being completely overwhelmed, so I stayed at home and took 2 classes and went back to work as I had been.

As far as work goes, my workplace was told by one of my doctors to only have me work 8 hours per week, because of my mental condition (I still tend to get pretty overwhelmed by things) – at 8.50 an hour, that’s not a lot of money. I received a month of lost wages, and am supposedly to be paid 80% of the difference between my 8-hour weeks and what I would otherwise be working since that month, but I haven’t seen a dime.
I’m also buying audiobooks and cliff’s notes to help with my reading and retention, which my insurance company is supposed to help pay for. They haven’t done that, either.

I used to work as an English tutor for local high school students; I still get calls about it every so often, and I still try to do a little bit of work. It pays pretty well ($20/hour sometimes) for the short periods of time I get to do it, but it takes a lot out of me. I buy copies of all the required readings at the local high schools and keep up on those books, on top of the own that I have for my classes.

Hi me and a friend are travelling to the states this summer. We have one problem we don’t know where to go!

We want to meet local people, maybe college students and just have a great time.

There are the obvious places like NY but we would like something a little less city like, but also somewhere safe (not red neck like), anyone able to help out?

    Thanks,

Right now in the United States, reforming health care is a challenge because Democrats and Republicans cannot agree on how to get all Americans coverage at an affordable price. While Democrats want a government run program that you would find in Europe, Republicans believe that health insurance should be more affordable so that everyone can afford it.

As an American citizen, how would you like to see health care reformed in the United States?

    Here are five ways I believe health care can be reformed in the United States for all Americans;

    1) The government should focus on getting insurance to the 50 million plus Americans who are either uninsured or under-insured coverage instead of a one size fits all program that everyone has. The Americans who need the insurance the most are the poor, the elderly, college students and graduates and the unemployed.

    2) Americans who have a disability should have to pay half the price for insurance because it cost most to get the coverage you need.

    3) All health insurance companies should accept you as a client no matter if you have a preexisting condition. One of the reasons why Americans cannot get insurance is because some places that do not want to take you as a client since you have a condition that will cost them an arm, a leg and two feet.

    4) You should not have to pay an emergency room fee if you end up in the emergency room. After all, our taxpayer dollars pay to keep emergency rooms opened and we should not have to pay more to go to the emergency room and pay more for the coverage or treatment we need.

    5) You should not have to pay if you end up in the hospital and you are not at fault. This includes the following scenarios;

    a) If you get beaten up on the street and you end up in the hospital, you end up paying the bill, not the person who beat you up.

    b) If an animal attacks you and you end up in the hospital, you end up paying the bill.

    c) You get in an automobile accident and end up in a coma, when you get out of the hospital, you end up paying the hospital bill, not the driver who hit you.
I would also like to add that I do not agree with either the Democratic Party or the Republican Party on the issue of health care reform.

I do not agree with the Democrats because they believe the U.S. needs a one size fits all program for all Americans. I do not agree with Republicns because no matter how affordable you make insurance, Americans still cannot afford it because of pre-existing conditions.

Due to an automobile accident with a DUI…he is 100% liable.

My daughter(19) has been left with 20+ 1-1 1/2 inch glass embedded scarring on the entire length of her left arm. She also has a 2 inch scar on her right knee. A burn scar from the airbag on her right hand/wrist.
She is a full time honors college student. Geico has offered what seems to me an unfair amount considering she will be scarred for the remainder of her life. The policy limits in the claim are $50,000 and NO she is not seeing dollar signs. the adjuster refers to her scarring as “other aspects” and says “unfortunately we wont know how they will look in the future, so your claim is only worth***$. Please only sincere answers. Photographs have been sent to the adjuster , so she knows what she is dealing with.
Ok, I have done my homework..Drunk Drivers Assets are $ zero !!! He is a hometown guy with nothing.. IF she retains a lawyer, he gets .33 to .40 leaves her with near the same amount offered.
The accident was last September. The scarring is still significant and has improved very little-considering its been ~9 months. Appointment is pending with a plastic surgeon.

Hi there, and thanks for taking my question.

I was involved in an automobile accident last week. I was hit from behind on the highway by a driver who just wasn’t paying attention. My car ended up being totaled out.

His insurance (Travelers) claimed 100% liability for the accident. I have been checked out and X-rayed, and have no injuries, luckily. The issues I’m having are coming from the settlement amount Traveler’s is trying to offer me.

My vehicle was a 2005 Ford Focus ZX3. Mileage:46,138. I bought the car new and it was still under a 100,000 mile warranty. They want to offer me their actual cash value of $8,697.

I still owe $3,000 left on the car so that would leave me with just over $5,000 to try and replace the vehicle with. I feel like since I was not at fault, it would only be fair for me to be allowed to replace my vehicle with a comparable one, with a warranty still intact. In the Kansas City area where I live, I have done some extensive research and found that it is simply impossible to find such a car for less than $11,000.

I have never been in this situation before, I’m a 22 yr old college student. They will only deal with me since the title is in my name. I am just wondering what my options for coming to an acceptable agreement with them are?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

Is it different if you are in college or if you aren’t or if you are in before college, home school , or etc…
How do you get all the things you need for yourself?
(Shampoo, food, clothes, make up, car insurance, toilet paper, automobile supplies etc)
It seems very awkward to go into stores, all by yourself at any time, and to call offices for insurance etc….very weird, how do people do it ?

Ok so to my previous question. One of you said I can use it for ANYTHING, the other went by the book and said I can’t.

I called my bank and wanted to apply for a student loan, however, they told me I can’t, it ONLY can be for school. (college)

I hear from a friend this evening, they said I should just get the loan and not tell them I am using it for a car. She said a lot of people do this.

I want so badly to get the loan, I need a car fast, I’m in an emergency and I am a full time student working towards my degree. I’m desperate and can’t go much longer with out a car.

    What do you think?
I would like a small loan like $3,000. That’s all I need. I can make the payments fine for the car.

I can’t figure out what these are, whether they’re nominal, interval, or ordinal. Can someone help me?

    1. What is the current temperature outside?
    2. Which of the following features of the hotel in New York did you find most attractive: location, facilities, room size, or price?
    3. What is the maximum number of hours per day that you would like to spend travelling?
    4. How many escorted vacations have your taken prior to this one?

    5. The age of each of your classmates
    6. The letter grades received by students in a computer science class
    7. The college (Arts and Science, Business, etc.) you are enrolled in
    8. Your hometown

    9. Would your overall rating of this restaurant be excellent, good, fair, or poor?
    10. Which of the following attributes of this restaurant do you find most attractive: service, prices, quality of food, menu options?
    11. Have you eaten at this restaurant previously?
    12. What is the approximate distance of the restaurant from your home?

And if these are true or false

    1. Professor Hogg graduated from the University of Iowa with a code value = 2 while Professor Maas graduated from Michigan State University with a code value = 1. The scale of measurement likely represented by this information is ratio.
    2. The graphical technique used to describe the relationship between two interval variables is the scatter diagram.
    3. Bar and pie charts are graphical techniques for nominal data. The former focus the attention on the frequency of the occurrences of the categories, and the later emphasize the proportion of occurrences in each category.
    4. An automobile insurance agent believes that company A is more reliable than company B. The scale of measurement that this information represents is the ordinal scale.

Nominal, interval, ordinal, and ratio questions are my absolute worst, so any help at all would be extremely appreciated. Thank you!

    Ok, here’s the deal.
    -19 years old
    -Graduated may 2010
-Took one semester of community college and earned 22 creds.
    – Currently not in school, living with my sister (paying rent), working to save money.

The short version: I have no way of paying for college and my parents refuse to help, what can I do?

That’s me, in a nutshell. When I was 14 my Mom got married to this guy Lonnie and she told me that everything was going to be great (basically that he had alot of money). I was used to being poor at the time so I was all for the switch.

In reality though my step-dad is not that generous of a guy…. and even though he makes slightly under 100k every year he spends thousands monthly on automobiles (cars, motorhomes, motorcycles, etc.).

I’ve had to pay for my own gas, food, car insurance, and clothes since I turned 16. (2008) I even had to pay my step-dad back for the piece of junk 800$ car he bought me (and all the repairs to get it functioning decently).

Last year I graduated from my local high school with a 3.1 GPA and a 27 on my ACT… My parents (Mom and step-dad) absolutely REFUSE to pay for my college in any way, they won’t help me find scholarships, apply for loans, or give me a personal loan. My parents and I filled out the FAFSA but (obviously) they made to much money to qualify for any help for me.

So last semester (Fall 2010) I used my savings to pay for community college. I figured I could keep saving enough each semester to put myself through CC. Then my car needed several things (Including a new transmission) and I kept sinking money into it thinking it would be the last thing that needed repaired.

So since last semester I have had a falling out with my parents, moved in with my sister (after semester’s end), and began working at a local grocery store in this small town. I have no money saved to speak of anymore, and I currently only get 20 hours a week (if that) at my job.

I took this spring semester since i couldnt go to college… but the thing is, I REALLY want to go to college, so badly…

How do I pay for it? is there something I’m not doing? I really want to be somebody and I feel like even though my grades suffered in high school I should at least get a shot at a good job and lot in life…

My boyfriend drives my car occasionally and my full-coverage insurance will cover him and my car if he were to get in an accident. However, since I am still a student in college I’m on my parents’ car insurance (have to pay them back once I graduate =P ) and they say that they don’t want anyone who’s not on the insurance policy to get in an accident and raise the family’s rates, e.g. he’s not allowed to drive the car. Understandable, however they won’t add him onto our policy even if he pays his share himself. Now it’s their prerogative, I’m not questioning that, but is there ANY way to purchase him automobile insurance that get’s tapped FIRST in the event of an accident? …To backtrack a little I’ve just researched non-owners policies, but they seem to work only after the initial insurance of the car (in my case my family’s insurance) get’s used up and the non-owner’s insurance is used as a last resort; this still raises my family’s insurance rates if there was an accident with him as the driver even if he had his own insurance.

Does anybody know of any types of insurance that covers him driving my car without raising my parent’s rates in the event of an accident?

    Thank you in advance! =)
Oh and please don’t say that he shouldn’t be driving my car, etc. It’s more of a hypothetical question as he rarely does but I’m getting tired of my parents getting on me when things happen, like getting the stomach flu when we’re out and about and having him drive home, telling my mom later when im miserable, and her saying i don’t care that you had the stomach flu he can’t drive your car without his own insurance. Yay. Thanks, Mom.

I need to purchase an email list to target college students. If possible, I want an option to get a location-specific list, but one that targets the entire country (US) works also.

Well, I’m a 19-year-old (soon to be 20) college student living in my parents house. I’ll be starting a new job, making about $1500 a month, within the next 2 weeks, and this job is about an hour away from my parents house. I also attend a local community college that’s a half hour away from the parental home (in the same direction as the job). It doesn’t seem to make sense to stay here when I can afford to move closer to work and school. My question is, is it a good idea, am I overlooking some details? I’ve found an apartment, utilities included, much closer to where I’ll be spending all my time for $500 a month. The less driving I’ll be doing will save money on gas as well. I’d be able to afford my car insurance and cell phone, and basic living needs (food, gas, etc.) I’m a student, so I’ll be able to stay on my father’s health insurance and whatnot. Any advice on things I may be overlooking? And, one last thing…how do I break it to the parents? (Pretty sure they’d be ok with it.)

The car I drive is currently registered in my father’s name. It is covered by an automobile accident insurance policy paid for by my parents, along with their cars. I have been making payments on the car, and it will soon be paid off. If I have the car registered in my name, can my parents still cover the car in their policy, or will that be another thing I have to pay through college?

For many college students like myself, eatting healthy is not always possible and many college students are on a shoe string budget for groceries and many students end up eatting food they do not like. This food can include Ramen Noodles, Canned Food, Frozen Food, and eatting fast food such as pizza and hamburgers.

What kind of advice would you give to college students to eat healthy when they are on a budget for food and groceries?

You know You could buy a car just carry liability (or whatever is required in your state) until you had an accident. Then you could just go to the insurance company, get insurance, get your car fixed…………BAM!!!

    Doesn’t that make sense!
I can’t beleive some Liberal hasn’t thought of this already……….
    @ carabou Barbie…..No-one is forced to buy a car……..It’s your choice……BIG Difference.
Quizard…………………………………………….where did I say ANYTHING remotely close to “paying for treatment already given”………………………….
Mysterio……SOME People choose to do things that are bad for them & their health while choosing not to have insurance. When they get sick & need it they are denied because it’s the same senerio as I described in my question………….
That’s my complaint about a pre-existing condition. I’m completely against a company DROPPING someone who gets sick, but I don’t think it’s fair to force someone to accept a sick person who up until they got sick CHOSE NOT to have insurance……
And yes I know Obama says everyone will have to or be penalized/Taxed but we ALL know SOME PEOPLE WILL NEVER PAY A DIME one way or the other…..

    Alright… I got questions for girls…

I’m a 21 year old college student, and I also work at an automobile insurance office(allxxxxx insurance) as my part time job

Throughout my life I’ve only focused on what my goal is, what school I’m aiming for(trying to transfer to an Art School by end of next year hopfully) and … I wasn’t really into girls much until lately… to find out that… … If I don’t get into a relationship sooner or later, I won’t know how to deal with love related issues… … for the last year and a half since I’ve graduated High school I’ve been struggling a bit with things getting mixed up with school(Community College) and work and I’m a bit behind… but slowly I’m on my way(I wish… …)

and I dont believe in Sexual relationship outside of deep relationship or marriage… …

Do I sound too nerdy or old fashioned, would I be seen as a hard worker with a dream or a loser to hot chicks?

I’m Asian American…(I’m 6ft tall and im not FAT)
    Well… … I’ve liked a girl only once… but I… figured I wouldn’t have a chance so I… quit… and thats about all … …
And I hate stuff like “one night stand” I hate the idea of it because… It’s a very stupid thing and your not respecting your partner(excuse me for offending everyone but some people think of opposite gender as what i reffered as “partner” and I hate it)

and above all you’re not respecting your self… … such a stupid crap.

and I’m sure for girls you wouldn’t feel comfortable with so called “PLAYER” with “wrong goals…” and I wouldn’t either… with a person who was reffered as someone else’s partner…

    It’s ridiculous…

people should respect each other, people are not sex toys, its just like getting spoiled!!

One technological innovation that has had a profound effect, both good and bad, on our society and has caused massive change is the automobile.

What are some of the problems it causes and what are some of its benefits? What could be done to reduce the problems? Why aren’t we doing those things? Finally how your life would change if you had to live without a car..

Like why do people say things like ” What do college students think of the adult students in their classes?” I’m guessing this means people who are returning to college after some time.

Do people who say this include 21 year olds as part of the students who aren’t adults? That’s really my main question.

The student population at the state college consists of 55% females and 45% males

    a. The college theater department recently staged a production of a modern musical. A researcher recorded the gender of each student entering the theater and found a total of 385 females and 215 males. Is the gender distribution for the theater goers significantly different from the distribution for the general college? Test at the .05 level of significance.

Report the chi-square value; do you reject the null hypothesis?

    b. The same researcher also recorded the gender of each student watching a men’s basketball game in the college gym and found a total of 83 females and 97 males. Is the gender distribution for basketball fans significantly different from the distribution for the general college? Test at the .05 level of significance.

Report the chi-square value; do you reject the null hypothesis?

Automobile insurance is much more expensive for teenage drivers than for older drivers. To justify this cost difference, insurance companies claim that the younger drivers are much more likely to be involved in costly accidents. To test this claim, a researcher obtains information about registered drivers from the department of motor vehicles and selects a sample of n=300 accident reports from the police department. The motor vehicle department reports the percentage of registered drivers in each age category as follows: 16% are under the age 20; 28% are 20 to 29 years old; and 56% are 30 or older. The number of accident reports for each age group is as follows:

    Under Age Age 30

    Age 20 20-29 or older

    68 92 140

    68 92 140

    a. Calculate and report the chi-square test statistic.

    b. Do you reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis?

Gender differences in dream content are well documented. Suppose a researcher studies aggression content in the dreams of men and women. Each participant reports his or her most recent dream. Then each dream is judged by a panel of experts to have low, medium, or high aggression content. The observed frequentcies are shown in the following matrix:

    Aggression Content

    Low Medium High

    Female 18 4 2

    Gender

    Male 4 17 15

Is there a relationship between gender and the aggression content of dreams? Test with a=.01.

    a. Calculate and report the chi-square test statistic.

    b. Do you reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis?

Research indicates that people who volunteer to participate in research studies tend to have higher intelligence than nonvolunteers. To test this phenomenon, a researcher obtains a sample of 200 high school students. The students are given a description of a psychological research study and asked whether they would volunteer to participate. The researcher also obtains an IQ score for each student and classifies the students into high, medium, and low IQ groups. Do the following data indicate a significant relationship between IQ and volunteering? Test at the .05 level of significance.

    IQ

    High Medium Low

    Volunteers 43 73 34 150

    Non Volunteers 7 27 16 50

    50 100 50

    a. Calculate and report the chi-square test statistic.

    b. Do you reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis?

Although the phenomenon is not well understood, it appears that people born during the winter months are slightly more likely to develop schizophrenia than people born at other times. The following hypothetical data represent a sample of 50 individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia and a sample of 50 individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia and a sample of 100 people with no psychotic diagnosis. Each individual is also classified according to season in which he or she was born. Do the data indicate a significant relationship between schizophrenia and the season of birth? Test at the .05 level of significance.

I want to start my own business in college next year and I want to know what exactly all college students need or want on a regular basis that could make me some cash.

Just a few questions for full time college students 🙂
I start my first year in the fall 😀

How many hours do you work per week?
How much do you make per week?
What kind of work do you do?
Do you live in a dorm?
    Apartment?
    At home?
How much money do you spend per week on bills and such?
    Do you like college?

I just started a home based business and I want to market it to college students? Even use it to fund raise for them…. Anyone have any deas on where and how to do so?

  65. Irma June 12, 2013 at 12:21 pm #

Like why do people say things like ” What do college students think of the adult students in their classes?” I’m guessing that means people who are returning to school after some time but honestly why do they have to say that? Could they be referring to the “college students” as people under 20 or something? I know this is kind of a dumb question but this stuff bothers me.

  66. Alysha June 12, 2013 at 12:31 pm #

I am guilty of this as well, as are many other college students I know. Even though we want to be in college and want to do well, we still tend to do anything to avoid our schoolwork–why is this? Shouldn’t we want to immerse ourselves in our work, so that we learn all we can, get our money’s worth of tuition, and give a good impression to our professors and future employers?

College students, please check to see if your local voting laws have changed since the last time you votes. You may be forces to go home to vote in 2012 if your ID does not match college address.

Did they hand in forms, schedules or something? And also how to ensure everyone have the equal chance to get into the course they liked? Draw lots, maybe?

I come from a strict family, where they won’t let me take evening classes at college. You name it. I’ve missed out on it growing up. They won’t let me have friends, either. They don’t pay for my tuition but I have been struggling to keep my GPA up because I can’t concentrate with all the yelling at home. I’m a junior in college and I’m going crazy.
I have $6,000 in the bank. I work a job that pays $7.65 an hour and will earn $3,000 this summer. If I take summer classes, I will get $2,777 in loan money to help pay living expenses.

I can rent an apartment around $480 and use a sleeping bag for a few weeks.
Utilities + cell phone (no land line) + Internet = $225 maybe
    Car insurance = $250? I don’t know how much that costs….
I have to buy a used car because bus transportation near Detroit to my college and back is DANGEROUS. Used car = $5,000 (including fees, registration, etc).

There is nobody to room with because my friends can’t accommodate me or afford to live with me. I am stressed beyond belief with my home life and not being able to have a normal social life. Do you think I should just bite my lip and continue to miss out on life, or should I move out on my own with what I’ve got?

My boyfriend got a job at Walmart and I think his hours are a bit ridiculous. They’re scheduling him as early as 7am and have him work until as late as midnight! I know there’s some Connecticut state law about college students and hours because I have an on-campus job and I cannot work more than 20 hours a week. He’s at 35+ hours. Can someone direct me to someplace where I can find more information?

    Thank you!

These are potential nominees and the one nominee, so far I like Harvey myself. But thought I show them, as no one else will show them.

    Thoughts?

    ******************
He is a Non-Traditional candidate that has recently emerged from the middle class.

He brings no political bragging rights, but brings a wealth of life and experiences on main street USA. An unknown man that can, bring back the respect we loss with the world. In college he was called a non-traditional student as a term used for older students that most raising a family, are employed, and have several life stressors that younger traditional students may not have to experience.

Virginian born Stewart Alexis Alexander is the perfect model of a concerned citizen. An average American turned political activist, the cleaning company owner and “automobile sales consultant” (as his filings for California’s 2006 Lieutenant Governor elections showed), is also the Chairperson for the Socialist Party of California as well as the Executive Director of the African American Civil Liberties Union.

Alexander, who once served as a reserve in US Air Force March Joint Air Reserve Base, will be participating in his fourth top-tier election following defeats in Los Angeles Mayoral (1989), California’s Lieutenant Governorship (2006), American Vice-President (2008) and California’s gubernatorial (2010) elections. His first brush with politics was back in a very non-Orwellian 1984, when he campaigned for the Democratic presidential nominee, Reverend Jesse Jackson.

Burck’s journey to fame began in 1997 when he won a radio contest in his hometown Cincinnati, with the prize being an appearance as an extra on the hit TV show, Baywatch. Despite his high hopes, the cameo lasted for all of two seconds. It appeared that the then 27-year old dream of a career in Hollywood was heading for a quick end. However, a concatenation of events that began from a suggestion of good friend and theatre agent Sid Craig, eventually resulted in the creation of The Naked Cowboy personae – a guitar totting, cowboy boots and hat wearing busker dressed in a Star-Spangled themed briefs.

And now, 14 years on, Burck is finally ready to take the next leap in his dream of becoming, in his own words, “the wealthiest person who has ever lived”. A tall order, you might say. But then again, we are talking about a man who reportedly sends a postcard monthly to everyone he has ever met in his life.

Charlie Crist became the 44th governor of Florida in January of 2007. He quickly established the Office of Open Government by Executive Order to make the government more accessible to the people. His main focus since taking office has been addressing the state’s high property taxes and insurance costs. Crist oversaw the largest tax cut in state history and passed Cover Florida Health Care plan to give affordable insurance to thousands of uninsured.

Crist attended Wake Forest University for two years. He obtained an undergraduate degree from Florida State University and a law degree from Cumberland School of law in Alabama in 1981. Passing his bar exam after two previous attempts, Crist accepted a position as counsel to Minor League Baseball in St. Petersburg, Florida. Politics attracted him but after a failed attempt at the Senate in 1986 he joined his then brother-in-law’s private law practice. In 1988 he became an aid to Senate candidate and eventual winner Connie Mack and he himself won a Senate seat in 1992.

Becky Rusher is a non-political non-party person. She freely expresses her dislike of career politicians that have forgotten why they are where they are. They are there because they got people to believe in them.

While Becky Rusher is not known she does have strong feelings on the issues. Becky’s main thought for running for president is to get others to realize they do not have to follow along with a certain party. She believes everyone is their own person and has valid ideas and those ideas should be put out there in the world. Whether by blog, emails, or running for president of a country.

    Hi.
I was disowned by my family and I’m staying with a friend until I graduate high school in June. I’m currently in New York, and I have a good friend who lives down in Arkansas who said that he’d want to get an apartment with me there. So, I mean right now my plan is to just go there and try to start up a life. I know I’ll probably hate Arkansas compared to New York, but it’s a lot cheaper to live there so I figured if I had a chance to go to college that would be my best bet. I do have a few questions though that I dunno who to ask or where to start.

    1. How can I get some government help with food stamps or like insurance? I really want to be able to see a dentist a few times a year or maybe have a doctor appointment once in a while. In New York there are a lot of clinics and all. But like once I go to Arkansas would the New York government still be helping me out with that stuff for the 6 months before I’m a citizen of Arkansas? Or should I be asking for help from Arkansas right off the bat?

    2. I have a few thousand dollars saved up. I’ve always had jobs on and off since I was 14. Although I dunno. To get there, and pay a down payment for an apartment and food and all, I feel like I’ll run out of money real fast. I really want to go to college though. I haven’t applied to the college down there yet, but I really want to mail out my transcripts and maybe I can start to go during the second semester next year. The problem with school though is:
    – I can’t talk to my family. I’m 18, and most 18-year-olds are still dependent on their parents. And like normally financial aid has to do with how much money your parents get. If I can’t get any of that sort of information like can I still get some type of financial aid from the school maybe?
    – What’s the best place to get a student loan? Should I be asking some bank, or like some company specifically made for giving out student loans? I dunno the first thing about those.

    3. The only thing I really have an emotional attachment to right now is my dog. She’s a medium sized adorable dog who is really friendly to people. She hardly ever barks. Everyone keeps telling me I should give her up though because finding an apartment that allows dogs is IMPOSSIBLE. That’s all I’ve been hearing for months. I’m really don’t want to and I dunno what to do. Is it really that hard to find an apartment that would allow her? She’s such a good pet and the only thing that is constant in my life.

I dunno. I shouldn’t ask too many questions at once.

Can anyone help with any of those questions? Or like guidance as to where I should get started or something?

I want to start a note taking business for college students. I want to do it to mainly help students who are disabled, sick, can’t make it to class, have work conflicts, vacation or any other matter that prevents them from getting the information they need to succeed in school. I have to write a research paper for my sociology class and it should be a survey-based research. But I cant think of any good topics. The subjects should be college students in multicultural universities, and I don’t want the research to be about dating or drinking habits of college students.

I would be very grateful if anyone could suggest a few research topics and help me out with this. Thanks!
By multicultural universities, I meant American universities in the Middle East, where most of the students are from the Arab regions and the Indian sub-continent.

Now they tell us that Facebook is going to try and open up to everybody. It used to be that just College students could use the network, then they allowed high schooler, then businesses and corporations. Are they trying to lose the very people who made Facebook so popular in the first place? I think this is horrible timing, considering they just saw a massive protest against the creepy stalker-esque “mini-feed” update they did earlier this month.

I am a first year undergrad in Computer Engineering from India. You could say I am gifted with Mathematical skills (especially Stats and Probability). And trust me, i am real good. I have won a couple of National level Math Olympiads. I would to be an actuary in the USA. I don’t know how to start. All those sites are really confusing. I have a few questions:
    1. What are V.E.E requirements? Do i need to take them?
    2. How should I prepare for the exams? Are there any books available, even in the eBook form?
    3. Do i “NEED” to study some courses in college? I took one semester of Calculus and one semester of Statistics and Probability. I will be taking one more semester of Applied Mathematics. And this one another of Discrete Mathematics. I don’t want to start over another course and would like to complete my degree in 4 years, along with clearing the necessary exams.
    4. Does being from India, will affect my chances? And how much will it affect?
    5. I have almost no problem regarding resources, dedication and hard work and of course, deep interest in Math. Do i need another thing?
    6. I don’t like my computer engineering subjects much. I manage to do around 2.4/4.
    7. Please mention the steps in as much depth as you can, to become an actuary.
    8. And if it needs, I am ready to take even speech and writing classes.
    9. Can I take exams here only, or do i need to go to US or some place else?
    10. Does my personality play a part in it, cause that will be negative, if it does. I am a bit shy.

That’s pretty much it. Answer as many questions you can. You are also requested to add any other kind of detail, if you can. Please be critical, i don’t mind it. And i also hope that I am being reasonable.

    Thank you very much.

So, I am from Germany and think about applying to MiraCosta College.
The College expects one to pay 700$ a month for homestay plus 350$ per month for additional food.
I won’t choose homestay, so I am asking myself how much I would have to pay. I’ve looked on craigslist and found some room sharing postings for 450$-700$ a month. How much would I have to pay for food and this stuff?
    Wow, thank you!
So is there anything you can recommend me as a conclusion? Is it too expensive?
And this Costco Warehouse seems very nice!
That was what I have found too. However I would apply for fall 2014 and who knows if this apartment will be rent at this time.
Comparing it to the city I live in, 495$ is nearly the same price you have to pay for an apartment here. So, if I would not spend much money, it would be the same price.

Do you know any other Colleges I can apply to?
Again, thank you. This is very helpful :).

I am 20 and a junior in college. I have been paying diligently on my bills since I turned 18. Two months ago, I had an emergency surgery that left me with 60K in hospital bills (no insurance at the time), and was about to get about 40K written off. That still leaves me with 20K in hospital bills, 2K in credit card bills, and my regular rent, etc, etc.

Due to my surgery (on my spine) I haven’t been allowed to go back to work until I complete physical therapy, so I plan on moving back in with my parents at the end of my lease this month. But I have ZERO income, and wasn’t working long enough to draw unemployment, and don’t qualify for temporary disability for some reason…

I CAN and WILL pay my bills when I am able, but every day the hospital calls me and asks for money, and I tell them every day that I can’t pay them a dime until at the very earliest the end of August (when I get my student loans).

It’s very discouraging and I don’t know what to do…Am I too young to file bankruptsy? Should I, considering I might be able to go back to work in a few more months–two or three?

I’m a high school student and I’m doing a presentation about how college students eat healthy on campus and so my thesis question is basically, what are the obstacles that college students face when eating healthy on campus? I have some ideas already, for example busy schedule, lack of money, and stress. But I need more ideas becuase I need to write a three page essay on it also. I really would appreciate it if you can share some of your ideas. Thanks in advance!

Please list if you know, I have one myself.
    Here is mine.

Obama said (Well lets say “promised”) to withdrawal most troops from the Middle East.

Now, he is talking about that Syria crossed his red line (Whenever he made that up) and that he was ready to take action against Syria.

It’s not even 2014 yet, which is when troops are suppose to start withdrawing, and now he wants to start a war with Syria? What happened to our troops coming home and not being killed over a country and conflict that isn’t even our own?
