I wonder if anyone could give me any information.
I am doing some research on grants for University and I found out that if you have a disability, you may be entitled to DSA. I am diabetic type 1 and I wonder if this would be considered as a disability. I have tried looking in the FAQs but it doesn’t mention any relevant information.

    Many thanks in advance.

I seem to have misplaced my Theory Certificate (likely into another Dimension), and was wondring if I could still apply for the Practical Test without it. I have heard all the details are kept electronically, so all I would need is the number on the Certificate to apply for the test. Either way, who would I need to phone to get either my number or a replacement? The DVLA? The DSA?

l got an e-mail from my driving instructor for next year that theory tests are changing – they don’t do multiple questions and the DSA isn’t publishing them. What does this mean as he didn’t explain?

i’m currently living in California. i start training April 17th for 12 weeks to become a CNA. hopefully i will be moving back to Texas in September.

When i move to texas, will my certificate still be valid?
or will it only be valid in California?
Is it possible to transfer to Texas?
    if so, how?
would i have to move to texas first before i transfer my information or what?

where, what, when, why, and how?

since i have not started training yet. i don’t know how every thing works, so i’d like for you to be very specific, please.

I’m an 18 year old student about to graduate from high school and I wish to go on to college to study Aerospace engineering (not many schools offer this program). I finally found a school near me that has it for 11,500 a year. Only problem is that my parents had a bad run in with the IRS and they refuse to fill out any information or sign any papers whatsoever. I’m not an independent because I have a part time job and live with my parents. Is there any way at all that I can go to college without any signatures or anything involving them? It would be a shame if I couldn’t go. Please help!!!

Hi i am a little confused about student fiance, do you get money, actuall money put into your account or do you just have an allowance that covers computer etc. i.e if i have an allowance of £1000 for instance i cant access it unless i write to student finance saying hi i spent £400 on computer. then they put my allowance down to £600. and if i say i paid 10 printing, they then reduce to £590.

or do they give you actuall money that goes in your bank account that i can access?

    please help i am confused.

If you register yourself as disabled when applying for University, do you stay on the register during the course?
I was just wondering, I registered myself as having a specific learning difficulty through UCAS before applying for my uni course. Within the first year of Uni, I did not receive any support, then in the second year I applied for DSA who then contacted the disability support faculty. Im in the third year now and have no idea whether I’m registered or not.

I am a student currently applying for Student Finance for my university application starting in Sept 2013. I have Epilepsy and a DNET benign brain tumour.
I am unsure whether this makes me eligible for DSA, however this is a long term health condition. I am taking medication which controls my seizures, however sometimes I still get partial absence seizures despite being on medication; which to some extend, if I had them during a lesson, could effect my learning,

Does anyone know if this makes me eligible for DSA? I don’t see myself as a disabled person, but on the specification for who’s eligible for DSA, it says a person with a long term on going health condition, which is what I have.
I’d like to try to apply for this allowance, but it would be good to know if having this condition does make me eligible.

    Thanks.

I stopped having my instructor in January due to lack of money, however i have now purchased my car and it meets the standards set by the DSA, I have even got a rear view mirror for the examiner, but I was wondering could a family member take you to the test centre instead of an instructor, eager to know cause I want to book my test for tomorrow or day after.
By this I mean to accompany me to test centre not to actually sit in on the test with me
Sorry but to the rude person at the bottom, but I did NOT think i could drive there and back on my own, just wondered whether it had to be a instructor that had to take you.

I am a mother of 2 who just quit my job to go back to college after 10 years of employment. Are there really grants and scholarships other than what you would normally know about when applying for aid? What about grants(not loans … as a parent i am already up to my eyeballs in debt and am trying to defray as much of the expense as possible) grants or money to pay my bills while I am in school…? Or is all this “free money, grants etc.” advertising i hear everywhere a scam? I could sure use the help if it is available. I am a 35 yr old white female and i intend to study in the areas of geology and archeaology and be teacher certified… if this helps in your answer. thanks for your answers!

My cousin’s daughter will be going to college soon and will need to apply for a student loan/grant, etc. My cousin has a bank savings account with about $50,000 which he strictly set aside for his retirement only. He can’t use his retirement money in consideration for the grant/financial aid (read that the financial aid wants the parent/student to pay as much as possible). Is there anyway my cousin can keep his $50K and still apply for the financial aid?
Also, my niece’s nationality is part: Hawaiian (Pacific Islander), African-American, Hispanic (Puerto Rican); Asian/Filipina. What are the best scholarships to apply for with that heritage? And last, she was diagnosed with ADHD; will that increase her chances of getting a loan or is there another program that she can apply? Thanks to anyone who can help!

I am mostly interested in the Democratic Socialists of America and I have looked through their website and read about their positions. They don’t seem to mention anything about the important issue of gun control. What is the view of the DSA and other Socialists on gun control? Also, is de-militarizing the United States, like the Socialist Party USA seems to support, really realistic? Thank you.

I don’t know what BHP my 2 stroke 125cc motorcycle is giving out and i know the maximum BHP you are allowed for the A practical test (module 1&2) is around 15 BHP.
How would the DSA test official know if the bike was giving out more than 15 BHP and if he suspected it was what would he do?
Can you give me any advice on what i should do?
    Thanks.

  39. Janelle March 28, 2013 at 11:36 am #

What else do they consider when chosing a student?

  40. Tianna March 28, 2013 at 1:18 pm #

Universities in the UK have something called DSA, which is an allowance given to students who have a disability. This could be mental health issues, chronic fatigue, dyspraxia, bad handwriting, etc. They are given 20% extra time in exams, and also given hundreds of pounds worth of equipment such as laptops/ desktop PCs, software, Dictaphones and other devices.

My issue here is that for those who have high-income backgrounds, receiving a computer worth in excess of £500 for something like bad handwriting, is not helpful. This person in question may already possess a number of computers and doesn’t require the financial aid which is offered with DSA to compensate for the disability. However, they are receiving them anyway and are generally unappreciative.

Why is money being wasted giving rich students from well-off backgrounds expensive equipment under the guise of disability? To me, this is simply financial aid, suited to disabled students from a low to mid income background. The money is better off going to charity than to these students; I think it is outrageous that they do not take into account the financial background of a DSA candidate, in order to award the most needy in preference to those who can easily purchase this stuff themselves and do not benefit from free handouts.

I think the system needs changing. Any thoughts are welcome.
I know a few people who have large amounts of money in savings and no student loan and they receive DSA. I think it is a waste of money giving £700 of equipment to someone who can buy it any day of the week without hurting their finances, which seems to be the entire point of DSA (protecting the extra demands on finances for those who have disabilities)

  41. Carmine March 28, 2013 at 1:35 pm #

Hi I have applied for DSA (disabled student allowance), and I was wondering if anybody could tell me if any of this money and how much goes into my own bank account for my own expenses?

I am a white female sophomore from an average income in high school. I am also the valedictorian of my class. However, grades appear to matter very little. Whenever I attempt to apply for anything to expand my education such as summer programs I find that you must be either a minority or make less then $25,000 for yearly income. I just don’t get it. It does not matter how hard I work, it’s either become a minority or hand over thousands of dollars to learn something new. Why is it that now it is the color of your skin which determines how much you deserve something and no longer the effort you yourself put in? What happens to the people that don’t fall into the categories of rich, poor, or minority. What happens to those who are stuck in the middle? Are they overlooked? Are they forgotten? I am not racist at all. Many of my friends are, in fact of various ethnicities. I’m merely a child trying to figure out how I get a chance, because I surely haven’t found it yet.

  44. Karyl March 28, 2013 at 8:01 pm #

As i have stated in a previous question, I have lost/deleted the confirmation email sent to me by the DSA- I have tried to contact the DSA to request a new one but all they have is an automated answering machine… how do I get a new one? And is it REALLY nescessary to have one?

Right now, I’m not going to school. I’m planning to go to NYU’s Summer in Greenwich program over the summer, then go to school part time in the fall while waiting to find out if I’ve been accepted to schools for the spring. How do I go about getting financial aid and loans?
I’m almost 20, I work, my credit score is around 750, I went to school at the U of Arizona for a semester (had a 3.2) and my major will be Middle Eastern Studies. I’d like to do as much as possible without needing a cosigner.
I can’t fill out a FAFSA, there was a mix up with my parents’ accountant and so I’m not able to fill it out until at least May.

Hey, I have my driving practical test tomorrow; and I just checked my bank account and I am lacking the funds to pay the for the test. I am wanting to know if I can pay in cash- because I have the money on me -or does the DSA withdraw the £62 for the test when its due to start because I could run to the bank in the morning when it opens. Does anyone know?

I am a DSA Adi (car) for over 5 years and now looking for a new challenge and think i could like to teach HGV drivers. Any info would be a help.

  64. Claire April 1, 2013 at 8:45 am #

I was supposed to sit my driving test today but it got cancelled so the DSA booked me in for next week. I told them I didn’t think I could make that day so they said they’d book me in on it anyway and I could change it online if I wanted. However I can’t make that day as there is something I have to do and there would be no car for me to drive. Every time I phone them after the long automated message it says because of the high call volume my call can’t be processed, I’ve even tried phoning the booking line and my local test centre.

I’ve looked online and the first test I can book is in about 6 weeks time which when my test was cancelled under 24 hours before I was supposed to sit it I think is unreasonable.

So does anyone know how I can explain this to a person.

    Thanks

DSA = Disabled students Allowance. Last year when I applied I had an assessment to see what kind of study aids i would need.
This year, I don’t think I would need the specialist equipment. Just the 1.1 support and ink cartridge reimbursements.

No one told me that I had to re apply.

Can I use the Toyota Yaris 03 Diesel for DSA Practical Driving Test without 2nd speedometer.
Else what to modify to make it fit for DSA Practical Test?
    Advanced thanks for your replies
@Evelyn,@Punk – Thanks for your quick answer.

My main concern was since the speedometer is not visible to the Front passenger unless he leans close to the driver, the examiner maynot be able to see the speed. Thats why I was asking this question.

I have the latest ‘official DSA theory test’ CD where you can take mock theory tests, I’ve done 4 so far and many of the same questions are coming up again. When I go to the test centre, do they literally put the same CD into the computer which has the same questions on my CD, or do they save some back which I won’t have seen before? Thanks.

Apparently, I am keen on taking Art as my O Levels subject, although quite a number of my friends discourage me from doing so since my academics are good too. Thus, I am wondering whether art can be used to dsa through a junior college…

I want to take both modules of the A2 motorcycle test, is it taken at an Official DSA center (like the theory test are) or is it taken at a training center (like CBT’s are)?
Also do they provide motorcycles for the test or do you need to provide your own?

    Thanks,
    Dan.

The Reliant Kitten is classed by the DVLA as a category B1 vehicle (kerb weight under 550kg). It appears to meet the required minimum specifications for the DSA category B test. Can I take my test in this or can it only be taken in a vehicle classed by the DVLA as category B?

I work at a university and i have to send off invoices to be paid by student finance England to the DSA invoice team. Theses invoices according to them are not being received or being lost and i me and other people who i work with are not getting paid. Is anyone else there having the same experiences as me and my work colleagues because i know that this can not be happening just for this university?

Please tell me what has happened to you and what you have done about it
The support that i give is note taking for students with special educational needs and i have even helped to look after a student who was blind at the university. The old system used to be great where we sent the invoices to the LEA’s where the students came from.

I have sent things to there po.box address done this as signed delivery even have sent them emails and they are still losing these. Thanks for you help though

I thought it was low gear but my DSA Driving CD says to select a high gear? Confused!
I’ve checked online and my friends books they all say the same thing, but everyone I know that drives uses a low gear to drive uphill. I have my theory test in a couple of weeks time and this is annoying me! What if most of the questions end up being wrong too lol.

I understand the official DSA car theory test questions are no longer released, but there appear to be hundreds of providers of the recent questions. What is the cheapest way I can access the official PDF of the question bank?
I said I know they’re no longer released. By recent I meant the older ones are still available.

I passed my test on Thursday and waiting for my license to come through the post. I need my own car before I go to uni in two weeks. Would the DSA pass certificate be enough for a dealership or do I need to wait?

I got my provisional and there are so many options. I just want to know which book (+ cd maybe?) I should buy for the theory test. So many reviews complain about the DSA ones. Which is the most ideal? Also, is the hazard perception CD a must? Any other details would be welcome and appreciated.

    Thanks

and have destroyed many of the ideals and semi-conservative ways of the old party? DSA works inside the Democratic Party and has cross membership with the Communist Party USA,Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism,Socialist Party USA and the Green Party USA.
Also, are you proud your leader,Obama, has strong ties with them and the DSA was a strong supporter of Obama and still to this day influences his decisions.

I am not,I long for the return of old party days of Truman and JFK.

I am a high school senior and my aunt told me about this scholarship. I am not sure if the scholarship is made possible by the Cranberry Growers organization or not, but I do there is one for them if you reside in MA. Any help anyone could give me in finding this scholarship would be highly appreciated

    Thanks!

I need a student loan but I don’t know where to go to get one. I know that there are lots of different places but where is the best place to get it? I know my school has one but they don’t give nearly as much as I need. I also don’t have a cosigner and I kind of have bad credit but not horrible credit.

I have just passed my driving test and am looking at renting a car for a couple of days but the DSA have not sent my license out yet. I was wondering what I can use to prove I can drive or am I unable to? Can I use my pass certificate or no? Thanks 🙂

I’m 20 and currently taking driving lessons. I’m hoping to do my theory in 2 weeks. What would be the best way to study for it. I’ve got the DSA 2013 Theory Test book. I’m going to be honest I absolutely hate studying and can’t be bothered reading a whole book. My memory is not good either. No idea how I’m supposed to remember everything in a book. Is there any other way I could study for it. Thanks.

I have a DSA theory test book that I just realised is dated 2009. does it matter since if I’m taking my theory test in July 2013?

  103. Donn August 2, 2013 at 8:27 pm #

When i first booked my test i could only get late september, a space then became available for the start of september which i took. The DSA then emailed me to tell me that my test had been cancelled and moved to the end of september again but they did not give me a reason why. Today i managed to find a new date for my test in a couple of weeks, i changed it but had to pay an extra £13 to change to this date. Why is this?

Hi I’m studying the DSA theory but I can’t understand the different types of light and when they should be used.
