A lot of households are in search of affordable health insurance that will supply maternity or pregnancy benefits. Health carriers provide such plans, but they vary in the quantity of coverage supplied. A lot of insurers will not give advantages to the insured for at least nine months.

As with all issues insurance associated, you must program ahead. Occasionally, customers are interested in maternity policies when they are already pregnant. They are disappointed to find out insurance can’t be bought to cover a pregnant spouse – pregnancy is a preexisting situation. Insurers just will not take on this risk. Nevertheless, a health program can be bought for a healthy mother and kid right after delivery.

When is My Pregnancy Covered?

Usually, policies will give advantages for maternity immediately after the insurance has been in force for nine months, but some carriers offer you strategy with restricted advantages that begin day one particular. Nonetheless, if you were to purchase a strategy with a nine month waiting period, your pregnancy would not be covered if the child was delivered prior to the nine month window had expired. Once more, it is prudent to strategy ahead and purchase a policy with a maternity rider some months ahead of conception.

It may possibly be useful to appear at this from the insurance provider’s point of view. Usually, when a couple desires and pays for a maternity plan, then they are likely to use it. The insurance business is fairly specific that a claim will come in the near future. As a result, they will create the price into the premium for the insured (you) and mandate a waiting period. That being said, some organizations are providing plans that are far more desirable than other folks.

A Popular HSA Maternity Strategy with a Sensible Deductible

One insurance organization gives a Wellness Cost savings Account (or HSA) with a maternity rider and a low $1,500 individual deductible. When the deductible has been reached and the nine month waiting period has been happy, the strategy would cover the balance of the pregnancy. In this example, you could fund the HSA account with at least the $1,500 and create that off against your revenue. The $1,500 could be withdrawn tax no cost to satisfy the deductible and then the policy benefits would kick in. Currently, this HSA program is one of the a lot more well-liked policies accessible.

One more well-liked plan has no waiting period and gives much more rewards the longer the policy is held. The maternity rider will cover $2,000 toward a pregnancy in the first two years. Throughout years 3 and 4, the policy will pay up to $4,000 and years 5 and on the policy provides coverage up to $6,000.

Another alternative is to merely self insure for a pregnancy. Many consumers will obtain standard wellness insurance or possibly an HSA qualified strategy and save every month in order to cover maternity costs.

How are Pregnancies Billed?

At this point, clients typically ask about pre-natal care and doctor’s office visits. Luckily, most Obstetricians do not charge as you go. Doctor’s visits, pre-natal care and delivery are all included as element of the pregnancy and usually topic to 1, pre-determined charge. Therefore, the final bill can be run via your insurance company (assuming you bought a maternity rider) and then settled up.

When acquiring well being insurance policies covering pregnancy, you must strategy ahead. There are several options accessible, but you will get the most from your policy if you do your due diligence and purchase the policy ahead of time.

I train in texas at FWISD. Im planning to conceive and also to upgrade towards the best medical health insurance option. The insurance deductibles my district provides are extremely high-around 3,000 with payment per month of $170 monthly. What exactly are my options with private medical health insurance?

I know little about insurance and I have never been pregnant before. My husband and I may decide to start having children in about a year. I currently have individual blue cross blue shield and I don’t believe it covers maternity. Do I call them and select a plan that has it, are there other plans that may suit me better?
What other option are out there? Who qualifies for medicaid?

We have been married for two 1/2 years and we want to have a baby. My husband is employed full time as a commissary supervisor on a military base (paid), and he is a financial analyst (commission). I am a full time college student and I graduate in March. He will receive full health insurance in January. What is the best health insurance that will cover maternity, or would his insurance cover complete maternity ?

  11. Leonard March 21, 2013 at 2:45 pm #

Sorry in advanced for being so long winded…
When applying for health insurance with maternity coverage with BCBSFL it says two things. The first being “Maternity Coverage must be in effect 30 days prior to conception.” and the second being “I agree to allow Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, Inc. to select my coverage effective date as the first available effective date that occurs on or after the underwriting decision date. Available dates are the 1st and 15th of each month.” there is an option to say no to the second statement but the earliest date is the 1st of February. The thing is that my fiance and I are getting married on March 2 and would like to conceive during the honeymoon. My question is: 1) if there is a waiting period and we do conceive in that waiting period would we still be covered for everything after the insurance kicks in and just pay for everything before that or will the coverage just be voided and considered a ‘pre-existing’ condition? 2) if we decided to just wait for the coverage to kick in, how long would it be until we could conceive?

I am shopping for health insurance planning ahead before getting pregnant, but wondered if you do get insurance must you be insured for a preiod (let’s say 6 mo’s) with the company first before they will completely cover you?

i work freelance as a designer from home and i’m currently covered by my husband’s health insurance plan through his job. we would like to have him quit his job and help me so that we can expand the business, but one big expense to think about is health insurance. where would i begin to start looking for plans for individuals?

  15. Judi March 22, 2013 at 9:43 am #

I have good health insurance through my work. My wife is a few weeks pregnant and is not, as of yet on my insurance. I can only add dependents to my plan twice a year. Will I be able to add her when the time comes? Can they count her pregnancy as a pre-existing condition? Will they cover her maternity bills as they normally would even though she will be entering the plan pregnant already?

My husband and I are looking for health insurance. I grew up on Blue Cross Blue Shield but I don’t know if that is an A rated company or not. Also, what benefits should I look for, what kind of deductible and what kind of q’s should I ask?

I am pregnant and in between jobs and was wondering if anyone knew of a health plan in FL that covers maternity. I most likely do not qualify for medicaid, therefore, any additional info you can provide would be helpful.
    Many thanks!

I am planning on getting pregnant within the next year, but neither my husband nor I have health insurance. We are both self-employed. What would be a good health insurance with maternity cover that I could apply to in Atlanta Ga. I don’t think Blue Cross blue shield would accept me since I had problems with them in the past. Thank you so much.

My husband and I want to start a family. I do not have health insurance at the moment-due to a lay off. Insurance with his company is far too expensive. Does anyone know of any individual plansor supplemental maternity plans that have a maternity coverage? I have looked and gotten quotes online, but none of them cover maternity. We live in SC if that helps at all. I would like to try to be smart about it and have the coverage before I get pregnant.

Since there will be a panel of what things that need to be covered for any insurance that wants to be a part of the “exchange” will that mean AARP’s Health Insurance Company has to cover Maternity?

  22. Estefana March 23, 2013 at 8:44 pm #

Searching this topic in Google only gives tons of applications but no info. I just want to know roughly how much it would cost a year for me to get my own health insurance. Are there big names to look for? I do not want a small insurance company.

I need to purchase health insurance on my own. How do I choose? What (besides prices) do I look for? Can anyone make any recommendations for health insurance companies….and tell me why they feel that company is a good one?

I am considering purchasing Aflac’s Sickness plan specifically because our health insurance at work doesn’t cover maternity. The policy has to be in force for 10 months before they will pay anything, so I am planning WAY ahead of course! But, I’m wondering if it is worth my trouble. Has anyone submitted a maternity claim to Aflac? And if so, what types of things do they pay for?

  26. Leonardo March 24, 2013 at 3:31 am #

Every time I look at a health insurance policy it says exclusions include maternity. Where/ how can I find a policy covering this? Is there a specific word that would pull up the right kind of plan or something? Please fill me in! Thanks so much.

Hello friends an health insurance agent is going to come my home this weekend. As a newbie to insurance, what questions shall i ask him while accepting for a policy detailedly? What are the precautions I should take before accepting a policy for me/my family? Shall i search any information about insurance?

  28. Donn March 24, 2013 at 1:49 pm #

I’m trying to figure out if it’s better to have a plan with a maternity rider option or take a plan that already covers maternity. I found a plan that allows maternity rider to be added on later and the monthly premium is less per month. But regardless if it’s with a rider or no- the waiting period is still 12 months.

Which way is the best option? My husband and I aren’t planning for kids for another couple of years but want to be covered when the time is right.

My fiance just got hired on full time at his company. They offer health insurance covereage to their employees by refunding them the monthly cost of a private health insurance company of choice. I want to get pregnant as soon as possible. Can I get covered if i suddenly get pregnant a month after getting accepted?

  30. Christine March 25, 2013 at 4:45 am #

Browsing for health insurance since we don’t know if his company will offer it- and we plan on having kids in the next year or two. None of the plans seem to cover it, even the good ones! How did you people pay to have a baby?

I am 22 years old, I am completely healthy, I am a girl, and I live in Kansas City, KS. How much would health insurance, on average, cost for me?

  32. Florencio March 25, 2013 at 1:08 pm #

My work decided to discontinue our group health insurance plan and are switching to individual health insurance. The insurance i signed up for does not cover maternity. Iam about a month along and live in wisconsin if that helps any. Just wondering what options are out there for insurance. With my boyfriend and i, i dont think we would exceed guidelines for badgercare from what i understood on their website.

  33. Christian March 26, 2013 at 2:23 am #

My health insurance is awful. It doesn’t cover anything I need and I wonder why they’ll offer so much to pay for one type of specialist, but none for another type. If they are willing to pay the money for one type of care, why does it matter if you want a different type of care, worth the same amount.

Why does it matter what care you’re getting? If you’re sick, and need help, isn’t that what insurance is for?

Right now I need to see two doctors to treat bipolar disorder, but it’s not covered at all. But if I see a doctor about my physical health, they’ll pay 80%. My physical health is fine, all I need is payment for mental health therapy and medication. They don’t pay for mental health medicine either.

I’ve had the same insurance for many years before having this issue. I never actually used it, and now that I need it doesn’t help me at all.
I know some policies don’t cover mental health; my question asks why they differentiate types of doctors and care, if the amount they pay for one would be the same as the amount they pat for the other. If they’ll pay $130 for me to see a GP, why is it a problem to pay $130 to see a psychiatrist?

My husband and I have been married a little over a year now and we are trying to find a good health insurance plan for the two of us to be on. We would like to start a family as soon as we can, but I have been told not to tell insurance companies that because they will not cover us. I am wondering how long after we get insurance do we have to wait before we start trying to have a baby. I am also wondering if anyone knows of any good insurance companies for young couples looking to start a family. Thank you.

I live in OR. I am currently unemployed and my potential new employer doesn’t pay for any health insurance. So I have to decide to either continue my COBRA group plan (which is expensive. The premium is about 430 per month!) or search for a private plan. The tricky part is that I am planning to get pregnant and having a baby next year. My COBRA will expire in 14 months and the max coinsurance+ deductible of maternity care under my COBRA is another $3,750 on top of the premiums I pay. This is a lot and I run a risk of 14-month time limit. Is it a better option to go for a private plan provider? In that case, how long will be the waiting period before I can get pregnant? Thanks.

The health insurance will only be for me and my husband. Not too expensive, maybe like $250 the most as far as monthly payments. However, although I’m not pregnant, my husband and I do plan to get pregnant by the end of this year, therefore thats another thing I’m looking for that it will cover maternity. What health insurance do you recommend?

Basically, I have a day job and several freelance gigs and I make enough money, I just don’t have health insurance, which (thankfully) has not been a big deal until now. With a baby on the way, though, that’s no longer the case. My fiance will have insurance from her school until May, but then she graduates so… what can I do? Is there a way to purchase a health insurance plan for myself and her that will cover maternity? I’d rather not have to drop all my gigs just to get some BS job only because it has health benefits… though I will, obviously, if there’s no other solution. I have tried to find this information online but they make it as confusing as possible, don’t tell you anything, then spam your phone with aggresive sales… “people”. I need help, please!
Please no useless joke answers. I know we’re on the internet and all, but this is serious and “Obama made it free” jokes are not appreciated. I am aware of the medicaid option although I’d rather not go that route. What I need to know is how to find a health insurance plan I could purchase myself that would cover my fiance’s maternity. We will be married by the time the baby is born.

Me and my husband just got married this year and found out that we were pregnant a few weeks later. We both just got jobs mine does not have insurance and his offers insurance but it will not kick in for three more months and our baby is due in one month. Right now we are both on our parents health insurance my dads includes maternity but will not cover anything for the baby after he is born. We now make too much for Medicaid but are still struggling financially. Should we wait until my husbands insurance kicks in and pay out of pocket for two months or get him on a private plan so when the baby comes we can add the baby to that private plan? Most of the plans that we can afford have like a 10,000 dollar deductible before they cover anything anyway.

Thanks for infos.

I’m the Treasurer for an international non-profit networking organization, many of whom make their living as self-employed, or would like to be doing so. One of the biggest difficulties is affordable health insurance. Our organization is about 400 members, but there are similar organizations with whom we could partner that might bring that up to 1,000. If we had 75% participation, could we get monthly payments that “real” people can afford? (by this I mean $200-$300 for good coverage with RX, office visits, etc.) Thanks!

I have a friend who is 31 years old, and is unable to find health insurance due to the fact that she had a heart attack a few years ago. I’m sure that she is only one of thousands of people in the same situation..but there has got to be some way to get affordable health insurance for her, here in Wisconsin.

Is there anyone out there who has been in this situation, and has lucked out in finding affordable health insurance? We have been looking, but as of right now…to no avail.

I just need a simple surgery on both my ears. About a year ago I developed a keloid on both ears. I know they can get bigger so I want to get it fixed before it looks like a grape behind my ear. My biggest problem is in finding affordable health insurance. Can anyone tell me a good site to go to for affordable health insurance? All answers would be greatly appreciated.

I looked online for some insurance and I have to pay at least $250 a month which is too much for me. Are there any affordable health insurance?

I was in between jobs last year so I had to put my son on medicaid. As soon as I found a job I let them know but they kicked him off of it anyways. The problem I am having is that my insurance at work don’t kick in until November and he has to have insurance by then for doctors appointments, etc. I tried to get MC+ for kids but they make it almost impossible to get. I just was wondering if anyone knew of a place where I can get affordable health insurance for my son?

they go on and on about 15% do not have affordable health insurance 45 million well what about the other 85 million that do? I’m not saying the others don’t rate insurance and it should be affordability to everyone. But get off the negative drum and onto the up beat of one. If they are talking about the elder and small kids that is one thing then just say that don’t throw a bunch of numebrs out thinking all are going to vote for you just becasue you say this or that.

I am not sure what to do about health insurance after I graduate from college (in a few months). I know that I am going to need some time to job hunt (my field is very competitive) and I would also like to do some volunteer work before I start my career. Problem is, if I am not a full-time student, my parents’ health insurance won’t cover me, and if I don’t or can’t find a job with benefits right away, I will be left uninsured. Any ideas where I can get affordable health insurance for short-term (no more than a year and a half) ??? Thanks!

I have a preexisting condition which makes it difficult to get affordable Health Insurance. I have found that it is better in some instances to have no insurance then to have it and not get quality coverage. The limited indemnity insurance does not cover what it is worth to go to the hosipital. Pays $100 on a $4000 bill.

Services like water treatment, police, fire departments, and schools are supported by taxpayers dollars because it saves money in the private sector in the long run.
Affordable government health insurance may also saves families thousands in expenses each year, giving them more money to spend in the general economy.
Would this not be a way to help stimulate the economy?

I have pre-existing conditions including Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Schizo-affective disorder and Asperger syndrome. I am looking for an affordable Health Insurance Company for my employees. I have 7 employees w/families and no coverage to offer because the prices are outrageous. My compnay is Incorporated, if that factors in. I have already used the sales companies that do this research for me, but I am not satisfied with the results…plus they call every 2 seconds with high quotes.

What is affordable to one may not fit my model of affordable. I have yet to see where anyone has spelled out the costs of affordable health insurance in real dollars and cents. So what exactly is affordable. $0-$300 per month $300-$600 or $600-$1000. I know where my number is. Whats yours?

I have read that the Jehovah Witnesses leadership body, the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society (WBTS), has sold real estate in Brooklyn, NY worth between $500 million and $1.0 billion over the past 20 years.

My Aunt has served as a Regular Pioneer for the Jehovah Witnesses for the past 42 years. She has never had a full-time job, and she has never paid into the Social Security and Medicare system in the USA. When she was younger, she was convinced that she would not grow old in this world system, and the new world would come before the generation of 1914 passed away.

She is currently 66 years old and in poor health. She never married and does not have any children. Unfortunately, she is not eligible to receive much or any Social Security benefits, and because of her age and poor health, she can not get an affordable health insurance policy. Her family (2 siblings and their children) are not in a financial position to take care of her. In addition, her sibling made choices and decisions a long time ago (when they were young) to work full-time to support themselves and their families.

Would the Jehovah Witnesses consider setting up a retirement and health insurance plan for full-time Regular Pioneers who have severed for at least 10+ years? It seems like the fair and humane thing to do considering that these people (mostly women) have devoted most, and in some cases all, of their lives working on behalf of the WBTS.

I was told that the WBTS does offer some type of support and safety-net for Circuit Overseer & District Overseers once they get older, or are in poor health. But, all of these people are men. Most of the Regular Pioneers appear to be women, and there is not any kind of safety-net for them.

My insurance premiums have skyrocketed in the last 3 years, yet this year the insurance industry will be required to cover pre-existing conditions for children and also for adult children up to the age of 26 (and sometimes longer). I doubt that I will be able to afford the new premiums. When preiums go up, who will be left that can afford health insurance?

wouldn’t it make more sense to give low-wage people affordable health insurance and make well-paid people pay just a little more for their own premiums?

Maybe I don’t understand it very well.
Can somebody explain it to me?
    I really want to know.
Edit: I’m not really talking about small businesses.

I’m talking about how Mcdonalds pays huge bonuses and salaries to certain people, and doesn’t give shit to the people actually serving the customers.

I am new to US (Canadian) and still does’n have a health insurance.I am trying to pregnant. When i called the health insurance agents they told to me that i will have to wait for atleast 10-12 months for my maternity insurance to kick in. n thats a long period. I am planning to go for a maternity card which gives me a discount frm anything between 40-60% off. all i want to know is how much does it cost for a pregnancy in the US, so that i can calculate how much i will end up paying frm my pocket after the discount. Plzzz help.

  109. Felton July 31, 2013 at 9:25 pm #

Recently, me and my wife discovered her personal health insurance did not cover pregnancy, just the basic health insurance. So we left them upon learning that we will have company covered health insurance in 3 months. The week after it was cancelled, we found out that we were pregnant. I am curious to know if the company’s plan would cover her being three months pregnant?
Any assitance is appreciated. I know there’s nothing much I can do now, just curious.
