We’ve been residing in this apartment let’s focus on more than a year, and today they’re telling us we have to obtain tenants insurance. We must have a minimum of liability, so essentially if our home appliances result in a fire, and burns lower someone’s apartment, we are handled by insurance.

This just appears like another payment per month we have to pay. When the kids are old they will give all of their salary to those FORCED obligations.

Shall We Be Held being irrational?

My daughter is moving to LA inside a couple several weeks and we’re attempting to estimate her expenses. Thinking about LA is within an earthquake zone, I’ve no clue what tenants insurance for around $20,000 of property would cost you a month. Also, does standard tenants insurance policy earthquake damage or is it necessary to have an additional policy/driver for your?

The complex I live in requires that each tenant have renters insurance because the management suffered losses from damages as a result of the tenants’ negligence. I want to have the freedom to choose the company that I buy it from — but they want to increase my rent in order to cover for the premiums. The management company in turn buys a policy for each unit. Can they do that ? I live in California.

We moved out of our apartment in August without giving the office 60 days notice, and we still owe them rent. They continue to charge us $15 per month in renters insurance. Should we contact the apartment leasing office or the insurance company to discontinue this charge?

I need to show proof of my renters insurance policy. Will the renters insurance policy show my name and address that is covered similar to a home or auto insurance policy? They are actually asking for a home insurance policy for a job but would renters insurance policy be similar since I rent and don’t own?

I ran a quote for renters insurance thru my bank. They also had a little section where you can build your own quote. One of the catagories I can adjust is the deductible. I went with the lowest amount ($100). Is this ok? My bank had it set to $250. Is there anything wrong with getting the lowest deductible? I recalculated everything with the $100 deductible, and the premium didnt change really. Is $100 ok?

The owners of my apartment building hired men to renovate the upstairs apartments. The workers accidentally broke the water heater above my apartment and water leaked into my storage unit ruining alot of antiques I had stored. Who is responsible? Am I at a loss because I didn’t have renters insurance?

I signed a lease that listed renters insurance as being optional, but following two major fires that burned entire buildings down, i received a letter from the complex stating they will now require renters insurance. Does this break the lease?
I realize its reasonable, and inexpensive to have it, however i want out of this apartment, its absolutely horrid, and i’m hoping that them sending me letters stating that they now require me to have renters insurance breaks the lease so that i can leave without recourse.

I’ve my renters insurance with Mercury and when I asked the agent to cancel it, they want to see the proof of renters insurance from the next company we switched to. That’s bizarre. I’ve never heard of anything like it. I never had to show proof of insurance to cancel any insurance.

I currently have an auto insurance policy based on working only 1 mile from home. I am relocating to an apartment which will be 20 miles from work. I don’t plan to be there for more than a year so I don’t want to update my policy info just yet (continuing to use the address after I leave will not be a problem so I’m not planning to switch any of my personal/financial info to the new address), however, I would like to get a renters insurance policy. Now I know that if I use the same company for both, my auto policy will get updated with the new address. What I’d like to know is, if I use a completely different company for the renters policy, will that info somehow get back to my auto company?

My apartment complex told me that I have to have renters insurance. I am moving in tomorrow, and I don’t have written proof. I signed up for it tonight over the phone and made a down payment. Since they require this, can they refuse to give me my key until they have written proof? They CAN call in and verify with my policy number…Help!
