At times it’s very easy to discuss financial matters, but there seems to be one subject which many people have trouble facing up to. While we can all talk about saving for university, instigating medical plans and signing up to a pension, many of us are reluctant to speak about the cost of funerals. It’s almost as if the subject is taboo, but it really shouldn’t be.
The cost of a funeral is one of the most variable of all, purely because every individual will want different components. Some will want an extremely ornate coffin, for example, while others may want to have more vehicles or a wider selection of flowers. Even the most basic of funerals, however, can be expensive, so it’s always best to plan ahead.
The sensible option is to look into funeral plans at the earliest opportunity, if only to bring some much-needed peace of mind. Many people pass away every day, of course, and if they have left no payment vehicle for their send-off the financial burden on their loved ones only increases their grief. Such a problem can be dealt with way in advance these days.
No financial surprises to come
Perhaps the most pleasing thing about such plans is that the individual can select how much he or she wants to pay each month, so budgeting for both the present and the immediate future is easy. We all know how difficult it can be to keep on top of the family finances, so it’s good to know there won’t be any unpleasant monetary surprises in the offing.
It should be pointed out, however, that everyone knows that a funeral costs a great deal of money, and everyone knows that it’s sensible to subscribe to a plan. The problem isn’t the logic of it all, of course, it’s the reluctance to even discuss the subject that gets in the way for some. For a small percentage of the populace, this is a hurdle that’s difficult to overcome.
Once they get past this obstacle, however, they realise that making arrangements for their funeral means they have helped their family members to concentrate on their mourning without having to worry about how they will pay for everything. In many ways, this is a gift that it’s almost impossible to put a price on.
